Lesson 51 | 01/11/26 Revelation 13:1-3 | Rise of the Antichrist
Today we begin Chapter 13 in our study through Revelation and this chapter brings us to the midpoint of the Tribulation as the Antichrist rises to power in the entire world, “The Rise of the Antichrist.” This is the point when the Antichrist is empowered with great devastation on the earth as the last half of the Tribulation begins. We were introduced to this man in chapter 6 as the rider on the white horse with the first Seal, Rev 6:2. As we learned this man conquers the world with peace and without war and establishes a peace covenant with Israel for 7 years, thus beginning the 7-Year Tribulation. But who is this man? Until now the book of Revelation doesn’t speak much about this man, but he is someone who has been long prophesied of coming into the world. The early church was well educated about this man of sin. We see Paul speak of him in 2 Thess 2:1-5; 1 John 2:18-23; 2 John 7. It is interesting to note that this term “Antichrist,” is only used by John, but he doesn’t actually use this term in the book of Revelation. This word is ἀντίχριστος meaning against Christ or instead of Christ. As we have learned in our previous studies, he is a counterfeit and a liar... Mr. Big Mouth might be a better name for this man. In Revelation he is known most commonly as “the Beast.” But we will learn this man is actually a duo between the Beast and the False Prophet. There are over 30 names by which this man is referred to of which the Prophets wrote much about, the most prominent being Daniel which we will read quite a bit about today. Events that will take place at the midpoint of the Tribulation
7th Trumpet sounds
This announces the procession of the King and the coming Kingdom, Rev 11:15-18
Satan gives his power, throne and authority to the beast Revelation 13:1–2-1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority.
This transfer of power was probably a result from being cast down and confined to the earth, Rev 12:9
Since he is now confined to the earth and limited in his range of power, in desperation, Satan will give his power, throne, and authority to a man. He has always needed mankind to do his work in the earth, but now with these limitations, he hands this over to the Antichrist
Possessed with demons from the bottomless pit, Rev 11:7; 17:8
The Antichrist comes out from the sea = sea of nations/Gentiles
The Antichrist will probably be Gentile
The Assyrian, Isaiah 10:24; Micah 5:5-6; Hosea 11:5
The little horn comes out from the 10 horns (Gentile rulers) Dan 7:7-8
8th king that comes out from the 7th Kingdom (one world order) Rev 17:3-14
Leopard, bear, and lion = Kingdoms of this world, Daniel 7:2-8, 11, 15-27.
Beast like a Leopard- swiftness
Feet like a Bear- power
Mouth like a Lion- kingly domination and rule (roaring lion... mouth speaking pompous words)
Properties/characteristics of all the previous kingdoms before. The culmination of world power and domination, Daniel 8:8-12.
The Beast also has a very similar description to the Dragon, Rev 12:3
The Beast has 7 heads (7 kingdoms of the ages)
10 horns (10 kings/rulers of the global universal kingdom of the end)
The focus has shifted to the last kingdom ruled by 10 kings, Rev 17:12-13
This is why the crowns are on the 10 horns and not the 7 heads
The Antichrist is killed and “rises” from the dead Revelation 13:3- And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast.
Satan doesn’t have the power to raise people from the dead
probably an allusion that the world will think he has come back from the dead.
Physical description of the Antichrist, Zechariah 11:15-17.
Rev 17:8- He was (first 3-1/2 yrs, and is not (his death) and will ascend out from the bottomless pit (his resurrection)
Maybe resurrected into an AI type body having his conscience transferred into an AI robot?
Either way, all the world will marvel and worship the Beast thinking he is god
Who would want to kill the Antichrist? Daniel 7:24; 11:20-39
