Lesson 58 | 03/08/26 Revelation 15:1-4 | The Cup of God
Every person must choose how he will drink in the Righteousness of God; by Grace through faith in Jesus or by the Law through one’s own works. Will we drink of the cup of His Grace or will we drink of the cup of His Wrath?
Believers delight to drink from the cup of His Salvation, Psalm 116:12-15; Matthew 26:27-29; John 6:54-57.
Earth dwellers will drink from the wine cup of fury- to the Jew first then the Gentile, Jer 25:15-26; Rev 14:9-10.
Let’s read Revelation chapter 15 as a whole, Revelation 15:1-8. Final Judgement is coming. It will take place. For 2,000 years Christians have been yearning for the coming of our King, holding fast to the promise of His return, but the world mocks us for this Blessed Hope. Peter speaks of this in his second epistle, 2 Peter 3:1-13. The world mistakes God’s love and forbearance as slackness in His promise. But they are sorely mistaken. There is a Day when He is coming back and when our King returns, He will be coming back in wrathful vengeance on His enemies. Last week in chapter 14, we saw a preview of the harvest that is to come at the end of the age, Rev 14:15. Chapters 11 through 14 primarily deal with the events happening at the middle of the week. The sounding of the 7th Trumpet began the procession of the King at the 3-1/2 year mark. The first 3-1/2 years of the Tribulation has been met with much wrath and destruction as the 7 Seals have been unleashed and the 7 Trumpets have sounded. Many faithful Christians have been martyred and much of the earth devastated. But there is still much more to come.
The 7 Seals revealed God’s Judgement- 1/4 of the earth was given to God’s Wrath
The 7 Trumpets announced God’s Judgement- 1/3 of the earth was Judged
The 7 Bowls will execute the long-restrained anger of the Living God- 100% of the earth will be affected
Chapter 15 is the prelude to the final harvest at the end of the age when the worthless fruit is expelled from the Kingdom of God and the 7 angels are given the 7 Bowls of wrath to pour out on the earth. Chapter 14 takes place at the mid-point of the Tribulation looking forward to final Judgement. Chapter 15 covers the next three years leading us up to the last few months of the Tribulation. For the past three years, Satan probably thinks he is winning.
The Antichrist is dominating the world
The Antichrist is proclaiming himself as god
He killed the Two Witnesses and the 144,000 who were sealed
The System of the Beast has taken over, and the earth dwellers are merging with the Beast
For the first time Satan has a sort of “omniscience and omnipresence”
The Beast is killing anyone who confesses Jesus Christ as God
The Jews who have not taken the mark have fled Jerusalem and trusting the God of Abraham, but are suffering great persecution
For the past three years, it seems as if God’s Judgements have ceased
At the middle of the week:
a great earthquake
the Two Witnesses were resurrected
The windows of heaven were opened and the plan of redemption was shown to the world
An angel was preaching the everlasting Gospel
Other angels warned of Judgement and wrath to come
But now three years later, to the world, it seems as though God has removed Himself from the earth until the windows of heaven open again and the world sees their coming doom.
Revelation 15:1)
Another sign of the same kind in heaven, ἄλλο σημεῖον ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ
This is the 3rd sign of Revelation
Previous two signs were in Revelation 12:1, 3
when the Temple of God was opened and the ark of His covenant was seen by the world, Rev 11:19.
Notice in verse 5, the Temple is opened again
Just like the other two signs, it is possible this 3rd sign is being revealed the world as well
This sign gives a prelude to the coming Judgement
This sign is great and amazing, μέγα καὶ θαυμαστόν- mega and astounding, startling
7 angels having the 7 last plagues
7 = completion = final judgement (for in them the wrath of God is complete, τελέω, finished)
not sickness or disease, but death blows of Judgement, (Rev 9:17-20 fire, smoke, and brimstone)
Wrath has been building and in God’s forbearance the wrath has been storing up, Romans 2:1-10.
Now it is complete and ready to be poured out on this generation, Luke 11:46-52.
In this Day of Wrath, the earth-dwellers living at this time will suffer the wrath of God for all the blood of the saints shed for the past 2,000 years including the Tribulation Saints, Rev 16:6; 16:17-19; 17:6; 18:4-8.
The Great Harlot, the spirit of Babylon harnessed within the Catholic Church is being judged for the millions upon millions of martyred saints
And all who are mixed with her and merged with her will be judged
Revelation 15:2)
Καὶ εἶδον, and in connection with this coming Judgement, I saw...
John sees a multitude of Tribulation Saints who have stood courageous and have not taken the mark of the Beast
As a result, they were killed and redeemed away from the evil of this world
Sea of glass... same sea of glass in Revelation 4:6 before the throne
The Tribulation Martyrs are always standing before the throne of God, Rev 6:9; 7:9; 7:14-15; 14:1
Revelation 15 is the last mention of martyrs until we see them again on the earth in Rev 20:4
These are the martyrs from the last 3 years of the Tribulation who have died at the hand of the Antichrist
There are no details of the events that take place during these last three years except what was foretold in Rev 13:15-17.
These Tribulation Saints are a result of the Antichrist’s global dominion.
But these saints are the ones who have overcome and have the victory
Victory over the Beast...
This is a true statement, but a more correct reading is... “those who are being victorious out from, ἐκ, the Beast and out from his image and out from his mark, out from the number of his name.
God has rescued them “out from” the evil of this system
The phrase, “victory over” gives the idea that the saints conquered by their own power.
Not so, these saints did not overcome by any great achievement of their own
They just clung to Jesus
They were faithful to hold fast to Jesus and He rescued them “out from” this evil and gave them the victory.
The same is true for us today... we have the victory because we hold fast to Jesus, Rev 2:13; 3:10.
As a result of holding fast in our current Age, Jesus will keep us “out from” the hour of trial that is to come
The Tribulation Saints have a similar promise that they will be rescued out from the evil by means of death.
This is the “patience/endurance of the Saints” Rev 14:12-13
These victorious Tribulation Saints have been brought up to heaven, and they are standing before the throne with harps and singing a song to Jesus... Their song gives all glory and praise to God. The focus is Jesus... Revelation 15:3-4)
The song of Moses and of the Lamb
These are songs of Judgement on the enemies of God and Redemption for His Saints
There are two songs of Moses, Exodus 15 and Deut 32.
Both speak of Righteous Judgement and the Vengeance of God, Deut 32:31-43
The other song of Moses is in Exodus, Exodus 15:1-18.
The deliverance out from the Egyptians foreshadows the deliverance out from the Beast
Jesus is King and His Righteous Judgements are:
Great and marvelous, v.3
Just and True, v.3
Everyone will fear and glorify His Name, Phil 2:10- every knee will bow)
You alone are holy, ὅσιος- sacred, not polluted (Jesus is the Holy One, Psalm 16:10; Acts 2:27; 13:35)
All nations will worship Him (even those worship the Beast)
Your Judgements have been made manifest (the wrath of God is complete in these bowl Judgements)
The whole world will acknowledge the Righteousness of God, Luke 19:27
Again, the question that all of have to answer is, “Which cup will you drink from?” The cup of His Grace or will we drink of the cup of His Wrath?
