In between chapters 14 and 15, by my estimation, spans about 3 years, three years after the events of the middle of week. And during this time, God has given them over to their depraved minds. He has granted authority for the Antichrist to continue for 42 months, Rev 13:5. And during this time, the world has become self-confident. In their minds, God has removed Himself from the earth as though they had won and conquered the world. But now at the beginning of chapter 15, the windows of heaven open again and the world sees their coming doom as the wrath of God’s final Judgement begins to take place. Chapters 15 and 16 brings us to the final Judgement of God as He pours out His Glory on those who are exalting their own glory, Habakkuk 2:12-16. God is showing His glory to the world, but they still will not repent, Rev 16:9. Let’s read Revelation 15:1-4. During the last three years, Christians have been dying on account of the name. Not willing to take the mark of the beast and merge with its system and standing before the throne is the last remnant of faithful Christians who would give their life for Jesus during the Tribulation. And now in the last remaining months of this 7-year period, God pours out His Judgment on the inhabitants of the earth, κατοικοῦσιν, earth-dwellers, Revelation 15:5-8. Revelation 15:5-6)
After these last few years of the last half of the Tribulation, John looks and sees the 3rd sign in heaven
The Temple is opened and the 7 angels with the 7 bowls of wrath come out of heaven and the whole world is watching with horror...
The Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony in heaven
Only instance in the Bible. Similar is Acts 7:44 Stephen; Exodus 25:21-22 Moses
The earthly tabernacle and temple were just replica/shadow of the real Temple in Heaven
The witness is His covenant,
The mercy seat is His throne,
The tabernacle is His dwelling place
The Temple is the sanctuary
We could also translate this as... the Sanctuary of the Dwelling Place of the Witness in heaven
There are Three who bear witness in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, 1 Jn 5:7
This is an awesome scene being shown to the world,
the Trinity in the holy of holies, in the dwelling place in heaven displaying the Glory of God and the fierceness of His Wrath.
The 7 angels come out of this holy place as messengers of God ministers of wrath having the 7 last plagues
Clothed to resemble Jesus Christ and His two offices... King and Priest, Revelation 1:13.
Clothed in pure bright linen holding ministry bowls = Priest
Chest girded with golden bands = King
Revelation 15:7)
Living creature gives the bowls to the 7 angels
Angels already have the 7 plagues, now given bowls as a method to pour out God’s wrath
Bowls- φιάλας- shallow dishes able to pour out its contents rapidly
Wrath- θυμός- hot anger, fury, deep intense passion, indignation
This is God’s Righteousness
In chapter 16, these bowls of wrath are being poured out on a specific group of people, the earth-dwellers
Specifically, those who have taken the mark and merged with the system of the beast, Rev 16:2
Revelation 15:8)
God’s glory fills the Temple in heaven
No one was able to enter, Exodus 40:34-35; 1 Kings 8:10-11
No new Christians entering heaven?
Might assume that those of us who will be in the Temple have left
Where to? The Marriage of the Lamb, Rev 19:7-8
The Bride is making herself ready and the guests are taking their seat
We the Bride are drinking of the cup of Salvation with Jesus again anew in His Kingdom, Matt 26:29
While the earth dwellers are drinking in the cup of His wrath, Rev 14:9-10
Just like the Trumpet Judgements, these Bowl Judgements have a very similar feel to the Ten Plagues that God poured out on Egypt in Righteous Wrath, Numbers 14:21-23. Chapter 16 describes the events of the earth dwellers drinking in the glory of God in wrathful indignation. Revelation 16:1)
These Judgements are being poured out into the earth to show God’s glory that He is the ONLY one worthy of praise, honor and glory, Rev 10:6; Ezekiel 38:18-23; Haggai 2:6-9; 2:21-22; Hebrews 12:25-29.
God is shaking the system of men, the kingdom of Babylon, the 7th kingdom of men... to the Jew first then to the Gentile, Rev 14:8; 16:19; 18:4-8.
Next week we will look specifically at these 7 plagues are specific strikes/blows against the very things that men exalt. The earth dwellers have chosen to worship the creation rather than the Creator and God is displaying His glory to the world. He is covering the earth in His Glory, making it known that He is God Almighty and His Kingdom will stand forever.
