Since the Tower of Babel, spiritual Babylon has been in control and lording over the kingdoms of this world. The gods of this world, namely the fallen angels and demons, the mighty men of renown, Gen 6:4, have been manipulating men and their kingdoms. Therefore, God, in His wrath, gave mankind over to their own desires to worship the gods of this world and dispersed them to the nations, Psalm 82 and Deut 32. But even then, God knows the end from the beginning, and He has used these kingdoms of men through the ages to fulfill His purposes, Rev 17:17; Acts 17:26-27; Daniel 2:44-45. The world has been fighting for their kingdom. They think they can actually overthrow God, but He who sits in the heavens laughs, Ps 2, and the kingdoms of men will become the Kingdom of our Lord, Rev 11:15. Today, as we see spiritual Babylon revealed in Revelation 17, we are told about 7 kingdoms of men that are striving to be gods of their kingdoms, but there is only One King, and only One God, our Savior Jesus Christ. Let’s pick up in verse 7 where we left off last week and see these kingdoms revealed. Revelation 17:7) Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery...
There is no condemnation in this question. The angel is not faulting John for being amazed. He will reveal this mystery to us.
But this is a shocking image John sees of this harlot, disguised as religious leaders, drunk on the blood of the saints and the martyrs of Jesus.
Jesus has sent His angel to explain this mystery to John (and to us) and to show the Judgement of the harlot who rides the Beast.
This is the beauty of the book of Revelation. It is the revealing of God’s plan that He has laid out in His Word, now being brought to completion in this book.
Revelation 17:8) The Beast (Antichrist) is the culmination of all the world dominating powers beforehand (7 Heads)
All the demons of old summed up in one man, the Antichrist
The one who was, who is not, and who will ascend from the bottomless pit, and go to perdition
Who was = first 3-1/2 years, Rev 6:2
Who is not = killed at the middle of the week, Rev 13:3 mortally wounded
Will ascend out from the abussos = seemingly risen from the dead, mortal wound healed, Rev 13:3, 12, 14, and possessed by demons (given authority of the dragon, Rev 13:2)
All the world will marvel at this Rev 13:3-4; 17:8
Will go into perdition = cast into the lake of fire, Rev 19:20
Revelation 17:9-11) These 7 heads represent 7 Kingdoms of Men that spiritual Babylon has been seducing for 6,000 years, Ezek 16:26-30; Daniel 2:36-45.
Egypt
Assyria
Babylon .......5 have fallen
Persia
Greece
Rome ......................... one is (and has been for 2,000 years)
One World Order .... other has not yet come
Antichrist- of the seven but is also the 8th
The Antichrist is the little horn that comes out form the horns of the 4th Beast of Daniel 7:7-8; 23-27 Revelation 17:12-13) The Ten Horns
These are Ten Kings with authority over the 7th Kingdom of Men
They are one with the Beast and one with the great harlot, having committed fornication with her.
The Ten Kings are the ten toes of Daniel 2
They are probably transhuman, having mixed with the seed of men, Daniel 2:43-44.
Verse 12- they receive authority for “one hour...” They will unite together in the final days of the Tribulation to fight against God.
This is the 6th Bowl as God gathers them to battle in the place called Armageddon, Rev 16:14-16.
Revelation 17:14)
They will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them.
Jesus is Lord of lords and King of kings. This is speaking to His authority over all flesh and spirits
King of all the earthly kings (King over all mankind)
Lord of all the lords (gods) of the earth... all of the Elohim race (God of gods) Deut 10:14-17.
We who are with Him are Called and Chosen and Faithful (καὶ οἱ μετʼ αὐτοῦ κλητοὶ καὶ ἐκλεκτοὶ καὶ πιστοί)
We will be with Him, riding behind Him on white horses when He returns at the end of the Tribulation, Jude 14; Zech 14:5LXX; Rev 19:14; Isaiah 13:4-5.
This is NOT predestined election... God does not choose a select few to be His. But rather, we are chosen because we received the universal call of Salvation by faith, John 1:12; 2 Thess 2:10.
This word called, καλέω, can also be translated “invited,” Matt 22:3-4, 9; Zeph 1:7
The universal invitation goes out to the whole world. The King is inviting everyone to be a part of His Kingdom.
But we have the choice to accept this call by faith or ignore the call, Matt 22:5.
The Chosen are those who accept the invitation and come to Him.
Christians are those who respond to the call by faith, we receive the garment of Righteousness to enter into everlasting Life, Matt 22:14- many are called, but few are chosen.
We are those who have been called out of darkness, out of the nations of the world, and into His marvelous light, 1 Peter 2:9. (delivered out from darkness and translated (μετέστησεν- changed stance) into the Kingdom of His Beloved Son, Col 1:13)
The word “Church” is ἐκκλησία (ἐκκαλέω- the called out ones)
Christians are those selected by God, because we accepted His invitation
The Faithful are those who live out from faith... faithful to Jesus our King, Gal 2:20; 3:11.
But this cycle doesn’t stop at Justification, it continues our whole life... this is the walk of Sanctification
Once we are His, God calls us to serve with Him in His Kingdom, Romans 1:1, 6-7; Gal 1:15-16; 2 Tim 1:8-11; Eph 4:1-4; Jude 1; 1 Cor 1:1-2, 24
If we answer the call to serve Him, we are Chosen to work with Him as honorable vessels, 2 Tim 2:21
As we work with Him in His Kingdom, 2 Cor 6:1, we are Faithful to the King and will hear those words, well done good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord, Matt 25:21.
Proverbs 17:3LXX- Just as silver and gold are proven genuine (δοκιμάζω) in the furnace, thus in like manner are the chosen hearts alongside the Lord. Concerning these end times and the darkness that is to come, God always assures us of His victory in Him and His plans for us who are faithful, Daniel 7:18, 22, 26-27. Revelation 17:15-16)
Why do the kings of the earth hate the harlot? I thought they loved her?
Rev 17:2- committed fornication with her
Rev 18:9- lived luxuriously with her and will weep and mourn over her
Why are they turning on the great harlot?
Ezekiel 32:9-10 gives us the answer
The kingdom of darkness is not loyal. Built on pride and selfishness
They see the judgement on the great harlot, and they stand at a distance horribly afraid of the judgement they are seeing God pour out on her
They don’t want to be associated with her lest they receive the same punishment
At the 6th Bowl, they turn from the harlot, join with the Antichrist by given him their power and authority to make war with the Lamb. This begins the Battle of Armageddon.
But this is Entirely God’s Plan Revelation 17:17-18) God’s will and purposes will be done
The enemy thinks they are ruling, they think they are in charge, but the Lord laughs at their puny schemes, Psalm 2
The Lamb will overcome them because He is King of kings and Lord of lords.
This is God’s Righteous plan of Redemption and the destruction and the death of the gods of this world and all those who merge themselves with them.
