1478 Latin Bible Incunabula Vulgate -$13,900- SOLD
1478 BIBLIA LATINA
Jerome’s Latin Vulgate
Printed by Reynaldus de Novimagio and Theodorus de Reynsburch, Venice 1478
Smaller Folio (8½” by 11½”), 456 leaves, Rubricated
Condition Report:
Leaf A-1 missing (blank), first prologue illumination damaged, first leaf of Esdras II has bottom and fore-edge margin clipped, some early page repairs, mostly re-edging of first and last several leaves.
Jerome’s main prologue is present, as well as a few other prologues that clearly identify this as one of the early printings of Jerome’s Latin Vulgate. It’s recorded to be the 35th Latin Bible, and the 56th Bible printed.
The text includes I Esdras, Nehemiah, II Esdras, and III Esdras which are more often listed as I, II, III, and IV Esdras when all are included. Also, the book of Acts appears after the Letters of the Apostle Paul.
